Snare drum 14'' x 8'' with walnut frame. The Star Walnut snare drums have a round and clear body that provides a nice balance between the brilliant victory response and the cohesive bottom register of the molded edges. Although Star Walnut is suitable for pick-up, it has extremely good acoustic dispersion and reinforces the lower register so that even in higher tuning positions the sound is experienced as deeper while maintaining resilience.
Tama has chosen to have 8 tuning bodies on these snare drums for optimal resonance. The winning mechanism is the now well-established Linear Drive with adjustment on both sides of the Super Sensitive winning mat.
Star Walnut is the Tama galaxy's third star in the absolute highest premium class. Walnut has natural eq with extra top and bottom registers that give a sound character with a lot of warmth. Tama has managed these characteristics and created a series of drums with thin and stable bodies that have nice attack and fat bottom. The sound feels familiar with an ounce of the birch's attack combined with the more diffuse warmth of maple bodies.
Star Walnut has the same hardware as Star Maple and Star Bubinga but not the Sound Focus Ring or the inlay option, which is also reflected in a lower price. On the other hand, Walnut has the same STAR Bearingedge chamfer and is therefore just as easy to stem as all the Star variants. In short, a third contender for the title "World's best drum set", "World's most easily tuned drum set"...
