When the "retro trend" arrived in the early 90's, EMG decided to develop its first mic of vintage character, the EMG-SV. It's modeled on a 1959 Strata pickup and uses the same magnet type (Alnico 5) to get the same emphasized frequency around 3000Hz and the familiar "clunk" attack. As this is a true cross-fertilization of vintage design and modern electronics, the EMG-SV provides a much smoother and smoother overdrive character and stronger output signal.
