Inside an EMG-89 you will find both single coils and humbuckers, each with its own output signal. The single coil is a stacked EMG-SA with Alnico magnets and the humbucker consists of two side-by-side coils with Alnico magnets in a construction similar to an EMG-85. A push/pull potentiometer on the volume or tone control allows you to choose between the clarity of a single coil and a fat humbucker. Virtually noise- and hum-free in both modes, it can be advantageously used for several EMG accessories such as, for example, SPC, EXG expander or PA2 preamp booster.
