The classic 87 can be said to be the most widely used big bass condenser mic in the history of popular music. Instead of basing their WA-87 circuit on contemporary editions of this microphone, Warm Audio has chosen to stay close to the early circuit with almost half a century behind it. As with so many classic mics, sound engineers who have worked with various versions of these mics often prefer the warmer, more forgiving nature of the earlier models. The desire to reintroduce the warm tone of this classic at an affordable price to a whole new generation of performers was the inspiration behind the WA-87.
